Who doesn't know Herbie - The Love Bug. It was in 68, when no. 53 started it's career as a movie star.
Followed by several successful movies in the 70ties. In 1980 'Herbie goes Bananas' was the last time for a long period Herbie met us in the cinemas. It was 25 years later, in 2005 when Lindsay Lohan, Matt Dillon and Michael Keaton revived Herbie in the movie 'Herbie: fully reloaded' and in the streets of Berlin 1950 Herbies met for new European record of a Herbie-Parade.
Maybe it will take another 25 years again until someone will revive Herbie again..... - We know where he sleeps !! They came to see us before they went to their new home in a private collection.
The noisy boys
We called them 'the noisy boys' when 5 elderly boys from California (Brooks, Brendan, Jim, Richard and Serb) came to Switzerland with their chicks and Cobras.
They left their toys in the port of Oakland and found them 'ready to go' when they flew in to start a tour through Switzerland and Italy. After a splendid trip with no accidents but a lot of new impressions, they drop their Cobras in our warehouse and we took care to bring them back home to sunny California.
It was great to have them here and it was great that we could support them with our logistical engagement to have an unforgettable trip with their old cars in the old world.
'Ferraristi'
Are you a 'Ferraristi'?
Did you know that there is a one-off Ferrari motorcycle in the world . 900 cc made in 1995 by David Kay Engineering with the official approval by Piero Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari's son.
That's at least what Bonhams, the auction house wrote, when they offered the Ferrari motorcycle in their sale in Gstaad, Switzerland in 2008. It did not sell...and we brought it back to the owner.
James Bond Aston Martin DB5
The vintage car-division of Packimpex Ltd (c.a.r.-logistics) has recently handled ?The most famous car in the world': James Bond 007's Aston Martin, used in 'Goldfinger' and 'Thunderball'. The car stayed at the ?Smoky Mountain Car Museum' in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for some 30 years and now has been bought by an anonymous buyer in Switzerland.
While handling expensive cars (price paid for this car was USD 2.1 million) is part of the day-to-day business of Packimpex' car-division, it is rare to be confronted with cars having such a history.
The story starts when the film producers have been asking Aston Martin's owner to generously offer an Aston Martin for the production of 'Goldfinger'. They were turned down and considered using the Bentley instead. However, the film producers and in particular the special feature and special effects specialists could not get the Aston Martin out of their heads and finally found an agreement with Aston Martin. The car as been equipped with all the famous gadgets, such as revolving license plates, two fender hidden Browning machine guns, the retractable bullet-proof screen, the seat-ejection unit, the smoke screen and oil slick sprayer. Special effect guru John Sears won an Oscar for all those features.
The car is in good condition. The ejection seat, the smoke screen and the oil-slick-sprayer, however, have been deactivated for road safety reasons. It is likely to be the most pristine original of the remaining three examples, having been untouched for the past three decades. One of the four original Aston Martins has been stolen out of an aircraft hanger in 1997 in Florida and has been compensated by the insurance company with USD 4 million. Many believe that the stolen car will never been seen again.
The Aston Martin handled by Packimpex is likely to be seen on the road at special rallyes, road shows and exhibitions. Look out for it!
